Reverend Canon Peter Mander

RectorPeter was instituted Rector of St Mary and St James on 20th November 2008. Originally a school teacher on Merseyside he was ordained deacon in 1987 and priest in 1988 in the diocese of Chester in the Church of England. He served his curacy in the Parish of Hale, South Manchester, then in 1990 moved to Lincolnshire, first to Grantham and, in 2000 to Sleaford. 

 
Reverend Peter Whalley
Reverend Peter WhalleyPeter has lived in Cruden Bay for more than 25 years, and is a retired computer consultant. He was ordained deacon and priest in 1986. He is the current Captain of Cruden Bay’s famous golf club, one of the top 50 courses in the world.
 
Reverend Carole Fox
Reverend Carole FoxCarole has lived in the village of Newburgh for 25 years. She became an Elder in Saint Mary's in 1982 and was ordained deacon in 1999 and priest in 2000. Carole has special responsibility for home Communion for the housebound at Saint Mary’s.
 
Reverend Bob Spencer
Reverend Bob SpencerBob was ordained deacon in 1993 and priest in 1994. Having served at Saint Mary's, he became responsible for Saint John's, New Pitsligo, until returning to Ellon in 1999.  Bob is originally from Yorkshire but has lived in Ellon for over 25 years.  He is married to the Reverend Sylvia Spencer.
 
Reverend Sylvia Spencer
Reverend Sylvia SpencerSylvia was ordained deacon in 1996 and priest in 2003. She is a Chaplain at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.  Sylvia is from Yorkshire and has lived in Ellon for over 25 years.  She is married to the Reverend Bob Spencer.
 
Retired Clergy

The very Reverend Gerald Stranraer-MullThe Very Reverend Gerald Stranraer-Mull retired as the Rector of the Parishin spring 2008. Gerald's home town is Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Scotland. He was at school in Yorkshire, and worked as a journalist in Yorkshire and Devon before studying theology and church history at King's College, London, and Saint Augustine's College, Canterbury. He was Curate of Hexham Abbey and then of Saint Andrew's, Corbridge, and became Rector of Ellon and Cruden Bay in 1972; a Canon of Aberdeen Cathedral in 1981 and Dean of Aberdeen and Orkney in 1988. For the last three years he has also been Warden of the Society of Our Lady of the Isles, a religious community based on the Island of Fetlar in Shetland. Gerald has written a number of history books, the most recent being A Church for Scotland – the story of the Scottish Episcopal Church.

Canon Dorrie Firmin came to live in Ellon nearly 30 years ago. She was ordained deacon in 1988, priest in 1994 and was appointed an Honorary Canon of Aberdeen Cathedral in 1997. She retired in 1999.

The Reverend Ewith Plant retired to Ellon in 1995 after serving in the Diocese of Leicester. She was ordained deaconess in 1983 and deacon in 1987.
